Statement on Referendum Outcome
October 20, 2026 — The CSC acknowledges the voice of Albertans yesterday, who reaffirmed remaining in Canada and the Treaty partnership. While this outcome maintains the ‘status quo’, it’s important to emphasize that Treaties 6, 7, and 8 were entered into sacredly and directly with the Crown—not Alberta.
This vote does not mean that we approve of the current state or the ongoing provincial overreach on our lands, waters and inherent sovereignty.
All governments are duty bound to recognize that our Treaty obligations are enshrined under Section 35 of the Canadian Constitution—and require full respect. We call on Canada and Alberta to honour their Treaty commitments and our ongoing self-determination to protect our Treaty rights from the province’s continued bad actions and infringement. Enough is enough.
