Dear [Member of Parliament],
I am writing to you today as a concerned constituent to express my firm opposition to Bill C-39, the Building Canada Strong Act.
Ottawa is continuing a legacy of what it does best—bypassing meaningful engagement and free, prior, and informed consent from First Nations Peoples. Under the guise of “national interest” and foreign threats, Bill C-39 directly infringes on Indigenous rights, sacred Treaty rights, and inherent sovereignty. Real reconciliation requires respecting UNDRIP standards and fully enforcing Treaty rights—two principles completely disconnected from fast-tracked project timelines and centralized regulatory “hubs” designed for quick approvals in the benefit of industry, instead of our environment.
As we come to September 30, I am reminding the government that Indigenous sovereignty needs to be upheld on October 1, and every day after. You cannot build a “modern economy” on a foundation of broken promises.
I urge you to stand up for genuine accountability and respect for Treaty rights by taking the following actions:
-
- Opposing Bill C-39 in its current form.
- Demanding the government halt fast-tracking that bypasses First Nations consent (not just consultation).
- Insisting on legislative processes that fully respect UNDRIP and honour nation-to-nation commitments.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing how you plan to address these critical concerns.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
