September 29, 2026 — Ottawa is continuing its history of what it does best – bypassing meaningful engagement and consent from First Nations Peoples. Bill C-39, the Building Canada Strong Act, uses the guise of national interest and foreign threats to infringe on Indigenous rights, our sacred Treaty rights and our inherent sovereignty.

When the Prime Minister shares a heartfelt speech about reconciliation on September 30, we remind him that Indigenous sovereignty needs to be upheld on October 1, and every day after. Real reconciliation requires respecting UNDRIP and fully enforcing Treaty rights, two things that are disconnected from fast-tracked timelines and regulatory ‘hubs’ with faster approvals.
